Clouds darkened the skies at
The dude as 40000 spectators turned up for the match.
Alessandro Costabile was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Terdsak Jakkapak and
Oğuz Mürsel.
Notas decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Lineup: Moreau - Müller-Bahre, La Santa, Catot - Bujtor, Bargiggia, Strickx, Joeira, Henderson - Malafaya, Subiras.
CHÉmpion started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Ibargüengoitia - Vande Venne, Lewis, Barbosa - Hafezi, Kouvonkorpi, D'Arrigo, Jensen, Cursaru - Parrott, Macy.
Notas tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
CHÉmpion seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
After 9 minutes, CHÉmpion put themselves up 0 - 1, as
J. Hafezi finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
It was obvious that team Notas had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
The crowd roared in delight as
T. Strickx finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Notas 13 minutes into the match. 1 - 1.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of CHÉmpion's
C. Macy after 30 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 1 - 2 lead.
C. Macy increased CHÉmpion's lead to 1 - 3 with a superb free kick strike that flew in just under the far top corner.
The players of CHÉmpion now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
CHÉmpion had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
M. Jensen was, after 34 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
R. Moreau made the save.
1 - 3 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to CHÉmpion, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Jensen from CHÉmpion a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 56 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
The visitors almost increased their lead after 59 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar.
Notas's
E. Malafaya had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 71 minutes having been played.
R. Amaya was the replacement.
CHÉmpion enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Notas's top performer was clearly
T. Strickx.
R. Moreau was a disappointment, however.
Most important CHÉmpion player was
M. Jensen.
However,
B. Parrott made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 3.
