Clear skies welcomed the 32894 spectators who had made their way to
COLISEUM MEROS.
Łukasz Wojtal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Wolfram Holletschek and
Ivar van Stigt.
MEROS had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Granby - de Mello, Candita, Negrelli - Bokelah, Juvanteny, Murru, Zawada, Kalaš - Lehtosaari, Zech.
united decided to use a 4-3-2 set up.
Lineup: Iudica - Dicu, Lhoste, Delmas, Doroftei - Temperán, Ferrazzano, Torres Losada - De Mita, Hammond.
MEROS used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
5 minutes into the game, united seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
weak level of organisation.
MEROS broke through on the left 7 minutes into the game, with
T. Candita firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
MEROS solidified their lead at the 12 minute mark, as
M. Bokelah dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0.
With 21 minutes played, MEROS's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
J. Juvanteny he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 3 - 0.
Confident in their lead, MEROS's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
35 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
M. Bokelah broke through, making the score 4 - 0 for MEROS.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Zech from MEROS a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 36 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
united's
G. Doroftei had to leave the pitch and there were no more available substitutions!
After 38 minutes, MEROS's
M. Bokelah swiftly ran past
A. Dicu and nutmegged the keeper! 5 - 0.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
M. Bokelah.
40 minutes into the match
B. Kalaš put MEROS ahead 6 - 0 with a truly marvelous free kick.
It was 6 - 0 at the break.
MEROS enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
During the break, united's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to
passable organisation.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in MEROS's
J. Lehtosaari increasing the lead to 7 - 0.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as MEROS scored another to make it 8 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Juvanteny after 54 minutes.
After 55 minutes,
J. Juvanteny put MEROS ahead 9 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
J. Juvanteny.
The referee showed MEROS's
Q. de Mello the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
J. Juvanteny increased the lead for MEROS to 10 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
MEROS players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Cheers filled the stadium as
A. Murru broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 11 - 0 to MEROS.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by MEROS, with 68 percent of the ball.
Most important MEROS player was
J. Lehtosaari.
However,
Q. de Mello made a disastrous appearance.
united's top performer was clearly
J. Ferrazzano.
G. De Mita was a disappointment, however.
