Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
backstreet soccers Square Garden saw a crowd turnout of 22227.
Joaquim Inácio was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Erwin Steinkogler and
Luis Valenzuela.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for backstreet.
They fielded: Cirò - Duquenne, Gas, Herrich - Caimaris, Baerntatz, Hermansson, Sirel, Di Pietro - Rendo, Wunder.
F.C.BRNY started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Mrabet - Camp, Serna Zuleta, Choi - Lietuvnikas, Šárocký, Negrini, Żuczkowski, Häggström - Valenzuela Mena, Estúñiga.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 28 minutes, backstreet did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
J. Sirel was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 0.
R. Duquenne could have put backstreet up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 32 minutes.
Good work by the F.C.BRNY defensive line after 33 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found
Ó. Serna Zuleta alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide.
F.C.BRNY's
A. Valenzuela Mena showed his experience, anticipating the outcome of the opponent's defensive clearance and positioning himself perfectly to volley in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. 1 - 1.
F.C.BRNY had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 35 minutes in when
B. Šárocký came up alone against
P. Cirò who managed a block.
R. Rendo's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 37 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to
N. Wunder who knocked it in for backstreet. 2 - 1!
An equalising goal was close at hand, but
L. Estúñiga clipped a free kick just wide of the goal.
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as F.C.BRNY's
D. Żuczkowski put the ball in the onion bag after 40 minutes to make it 2 - 2.
F.C.BRNY were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 42 minutes,
D. Żuczkowski swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 2 - 3.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 3.
F.C.BRNY claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.
The F.C.BRNY players could smell victory in the air.
A. Lietuvnikas wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
J. Agustín after 47 minutes.
R. Rendo made a nice dash down the wing after 73 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded.
L. Estúñiga could have added one to the visitors' lead if his free kick had gone just a little lower.
Possession in this half belonged to F.C.BRNY, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
backstreet's top performer was clearly
F. Herrich.
R. Duquenne turned in a dismal performance, however.
A. Valenzuela Mena performed admirably for F.C.BRNY.
L. Estúñiga was a disappointment, however.
