Clear skies welcomed the 13100 spectators who had made their way to Estadio power arena. Hans Erling Lyhne was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Heikki Noromaa and Gheorghe Marin. Power started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. Lineup: Fiedler - Bañobre, Ordóñez, Košan, Gandini - Braconi, Gaudí, Carral, Zwaab, van Ieperen - Gotrano.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sporting. The following players had been chosen: Gutarrate - Larios, Gastañaduy, Windhain - Sołtyszewski, Dieck, Parada, Ahmad Beigi, Déret - Verganza, Tello.

Today, Power's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. It was an obvious ambition of Sporting to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. C. van Ieperen could have put Power into the lead after 16 minutes, but the free kick went just wide. The visiting E. Tello was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 19 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. After 22 minutes, L. Braconi got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn't get the shot away. Attacking on the wings was the choice for Power, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. With 26 minutes having been played, Power scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but J. Gotrano was marked down as the scorer. The referee showed Power's L. Braconi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. With 40 minutes played, L. Windhain of Sporting fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Sporting had to make a substitution after 42 minutes. E. Dieck limped off the field and was replaced by R. Miguel Conde. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Power claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

As the 50 minute mark approached, the Power coach decided it was time for a substitution. M. Košan reluctantly made way for A. Duszczyk on the pitch. 51 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Power to take the lead after a good cross from the right found J. Gotrano alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. The guests took the lead 54 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in M. Verganza scoring to make it 1 - 2. Power needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes F. Carral made way for K. Wienerroither. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Power's J. Gotrano was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 70 minutes. S. Bouvet was given a chance to change things around. C. van Ieperen was handed the Power captain's armband. With 74 minutes played, A. Parada nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. The crowd was on its feet 78 minutes into the match, as Power's L. Braconi found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 2 - 2 equaliser. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Power, with 53 percent of the ball.

Most important Power player was C. van Ieperen. However, S. Fiedler made a disastrous appearance. Sporting's best player was E. Tello. L. Windhain was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 2.
