The crowd of 13643 turning up at
Real Matader Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Marco La Pesara was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Steven Patton and
Mijo Vrčić.
Matader had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
They fielded: Kalkitsas - Bride, Guerrero, Overste, Buonfini - Swoboda, Danielsson, Aşina, Laveau - Segovia, Frandsen.
mOstOles started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
Lineup: Vas - Ozores, Añón, Carlsson, Piccon - Ugolini, Cabezudo, Fideu, Damalos, Labadessa - Puigcerver.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Matader.
mOstOles were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
It was obvious that mOstOles had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
The guests took the lead 10 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in
G. Labadessa scoring to make it 0 - 1.
The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but
H. Carlsson showed great heart and had a good game.
After 24 minutes, mOstOles raised their score by one when
G. Labadessa's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
F. Puigcerver. 0 - 2.
A drive down the left side allowed
Y. Damalos to get in close and score another goal for mOstOles after 26 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3.
After this, you could see that the players of mOstOles were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
mOstOles were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
F. Puigcerver wanted to play on, but the mOstOles coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 35 minutes into the game by
M. Block.
It was 0 - 3 at the break.
mOstOles enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.
The coach of mOstOles was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 50 minutes,
N. Shemer came on for
Y. Damalos.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the mOstOles coach let
M. Cruz replace
R. Añón after 65 minutes.
H. Segovia of Matader was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
Players in mOstOles heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
After 87 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
M. Block to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 4.
G. Cabezudo increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5.
The referee showed Matader's
O. Swoboda the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
mOstOles were worse off though, as
H. Carlsson was unable to finish the game and no more substitutes were available!
mOstOles had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.
B. Frandsen performed admirably for Matader.
On the other hand,
A. Buonfini's play was disheartening.
The most dominating mOstOles player was without a doubt
J. Ozores.
D. Vas was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 5.
