GranCa 2 - 1 Runcapa
(383062612)

25-08-2012 15.10
Dark skies made the crowd of 17569 at
Gran Canaria Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Torsten Stix was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Luca Corvino and
Tuomas Perkiö.
People from all over
Canarias had joined up for the derby.
GranCa started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Pieróg - Lübbers, Tabaco, Kähönen - ter Linde, Sarriá, Coazo, Fornels, Samol - das Covas, Tryka.
Runcapa tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
They fielded: Göktan - Gattai, Lagos, Enckevort - Arnoldussen, Lenk, Vischer, Hernández, Cotecchia - Demolder, Brakstad.
The strategy for GranCa was to use their ability to press.
The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when
M. Lagos was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 8 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead!
GranCa fans held their breath as
H. das Covas scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 1 - 0!
It was 1 - 0 at the break.
Possession in this half belonged to GranCa, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
GranCa's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
Runcapa needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 55 minutes
F. Lenk made way for
P. Scafà.
After 60 minutes, Runcapa switched
M. Lagos with
N. Favaro, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Runcapa's
O. Brakstad was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 60 minutes.
B. Helmink was given a chance to change things around.
A cross coming in on the right hand side left
R. Cotecchia alone in front of the goal after 72 minutes but his shot was woeful.
F. Gattai came close to levelling the score 83 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
G. ter Linde got himself booked. The manager of GranCa was not happy.
The Runcapa free kick 85 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
D. Arnoldussen, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 1!
After 86 minutes,
G. ter Linde came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving GranCa the lead.
Neither team was controlling the possession at this point in the match, with the stats showing a 50:50 split.
Most important GranCa player was
R. Coazo.
However,
H. das Covas made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Runcapa player was without a doubt
B. Helmink.
E. Göktan on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 1.
