Marshall 0 - 4 GyN (383066621)

Clouds darkened the skies at Santuario as 9733 spectators turned up for the match. Román Azcárate was the appointed referee with assistance provided by John Begum and Walter Hanselmann. Marshall started off with a 5-3-1 lineup. They fielded: Marafatto - Walczak, Dijkhuis, Stirparo, Casu, van den Berken - Gladieux, Hierro, Palleras - Dias.

A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for GyN. The following players took the field: Refsland - Peručić, Cornelis, Ajofrín - Batallé, Georgiev, Delamarre, Cabale - Andresano, Ezzitouni, Venczel.

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Marshall. L. Balogh was called on to replace GyN's Y. Georgiev after 2 minutes following a nasty collision. 25 minutes into the game, Marshall seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak level of organisation. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 26 minutes allowed K. Venczel to score for GyN. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. M. Ezzitouni received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 33 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The GyN fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. 35 minutes into the game, Marshall had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to weak. A drive down the left side allowed L. Balogh to get in close and score another goal for GyN after 42 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3. By now, the players in GyN felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. GyN had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

During the break, Marshall's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to passable organisation. 53 minutes into the game, Marshall seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to inadequate. M. Ezzitouni wanted to play on, but the GyN coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 61 minutes into the game by M. Cimpu. The GyN players could smell victory in the air. K. Venczel wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for M. Torroja after 67 minutes. F. Delamarre was handed the GyN captain's armband. 69 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 4 as F. Cabale finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. 70 minutes in, Marshall's G. Casu received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. GyN enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.

Most important Marshall player was B. Stirparo. However, E. Marafatto made a disastrous appearance. GyN's best player was I. Andresano. F. Cabale was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 4.
