07-07-2012 15.15
Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Stadium Congost Arena saw a crowd turnout of 10511.
Józef Szoda was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bengt-Åke Hansson and
Alex Kaart.
Manresa started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Hendrikx - Badot, Perez Costa, Astorri, Drouvalakis - Winklmüller, Weingarts, Lante-Stein, Ciuna - Pereira Guilherme, Astorga.
Carpatistas had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Nadal - Villamayor, Kask, Mazzarini - Nuñez, Schneiderlein, Rehmann, Houra, Padovani - Llorà, Laguna.
The strategy for Manresa was to use their ability to press.
Carpatistas took a creative approach on the field.
P. Drouvalakis looked to be heading one way when he unexpectedly passed the ball to
D. Ciuna. The move caught everyone off-guard, including his teammate, who panicked and kicked the ball out of play by accident.
Manresa had to make a substitution after 10 minutes.
D. Ciuna limped off the field and was replaced by
G. Dumas.
Manresa took the lead 25 minutes in, as
D. Pereira Guilherme broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
With 28 minutes played,
F. Astorga of Manresa fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
It was 1 - 0 at the break.
Manresa claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.
Coming through the middle
S. Padovani almost scored the equaliser for Carpatistas after 48 minutes, but
E. Hendrikx made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post.
Carpatistas's
S. Kask was shown a yellow card after 57 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
T. Badot of Manresa had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
D. Nieto came in to finish the match.
E. Astorri became the new Manresa captain.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Carpatistas's
M. Laguna was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 64 minutes.
D. Descoll was given a chance to change things around.
V. Houra behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 64 minutes as he gave the ball away to
J. Lante-Stein. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
With 69 minutes played, the Carpatistas coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
I. Panelo came on,
R. Villamayor had to leave the fray.
Manresa's
G. Winklmüller increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 71 minutes.
At this time in the match, Manresa were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
The coach of Manresa was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 86 minutes,
T. van Krimpen came on for
F. Astorga.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Manresa, with 54 percent of the ball.
Manresa's best player was
D. Pereira Guilherme.
However,
G. Winklmüller made a disastrous appearance.
Carpatistas's top performer was clearly
O. Nuñez.
I. Panelo on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 0.
