previous 7/10 next 9/10  RACING 3 - 0 amarillo (383085001)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 18261 had shown up at RACING EUROPA Arena for the match. Germán Adrián Ramón Loto was the appointed referee with assistance provided by David Muñoz Rubio and Guan Ju-Ok. RACING decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Quinta - Ai, van Panhuis, Ram de Montoro, Suoyrjö - Segieth, Ginger, Sandberg, Macià - Arce, Avraham.

amarillo had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. Starters: Gjebrea - Popovici, Le Bolloch, Dubuc, Mårtensson, Leković - Jimenez, Arnau, Naveaux - Toniutti, Beysan.

amarillo saw most attack opportunities on the wings. After 2 minutes E. Macià made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to R. Arce who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 0. T. Suoyrjö behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 7 minutes as he gave the ball away to M. Jimenez. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in RACING's R. Arce increasing the lead to 2 - 0. Confident in their lead, RACING's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Ö. Beysan of amarillo received a yellow card after 31 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. RACING managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when P. Ai cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. RACING's S. Sandberg swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. It was 3 - 0 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by RACING, with 72 percent of the ball.

Always quick and a menace to his opponents, E. Macià was very close to getting through after 50 minutes, but he could only put the ball into the keeper's arms. The home side's L. Ram de Montoro came close to extending the lead 64 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but L. Gjebrea managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. After 74 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by M. van Panhuis might have resulted in another goal for RACING. However, L. Gjebrea made a spectacular save. RACING's S. Segieth was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 76 minutes. RACING claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 69 percent.

RACING's best player was D. Avraham. E. Macià on the other hand, had a terrible day. V. Toniutti performed admirably for amarillo. J. Le Bolloch was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 0.
