11-08-2012 15.15
19637 spectators arrived at
España Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Riccardo Lunazzi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ralph von Grüningen and
Sergio Turpín.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for España.
Starters: Niculescu - Öncel, Läfskär, Tassati - Promieniak, Animento, Rycerski, Schieber, Crespí - Haes, Świdnicki.
Mesías decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Richart - Balsells, Flinth, Sanz, Barrero - Foncueva, Gorriti, Aznar, Ascanio - Robledillo, Menika.
4 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for España to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
C. Crespí alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
J. Läfskär from España a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 23 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
24 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for España was
E. Rycerski.
With 28 minutes gone, España had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
W. Świdnicki did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as España scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Läfskär after 34 minutes.
By now, the players in España felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
After 37 minutes, España's
D. Öncel found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 3 - 0.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
J. Läfskär should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Mesías a goal with 40 minutes of the match played.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0.
España had most of the ball, with 89 percent of possession.
R. Animento dispatched a majestic long shot 47 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of España to 4 - 0 as
W. Świdnicki finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
With 61 minutes played, España put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
W. Świdnicki, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
67 minutes in, Mesías appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
solid.
With 68 minutes played, España's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
R. Animento he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 6 - 0.
España put themselves up 7 - 0 when
T. Promieniak broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Possession in this half belonged to España, who controlled the ball 92 percent of the time.
The most dominating España player was without a doubt
A. Schieber.
C. Crespí on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Mesías player was
E. Menika.
R. Richart turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 7 - 0.
