A scorching day at
Ítaca, where 12805 spectators were in place for today's match.
Jockel Nösges was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Guerric Réveillon and
Moreno 'Professor' Todesco.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Catalunya derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
PPCC decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Laurent - Dessers, Vanroose, Hendel - Orozco, Núñez de Alava, Ruiz Melendez, Rogersson, Platero - Felgueiras, Parkita.
Carapenes started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Seçen - Ernst, Kosec, Rodríguez Pérez, Mora - Martínez, Hjortshøj, Durandio, Urtuuste - López Dieguez, Akbaran.
It was an obvious ambition of PPCC to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Carapenes seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
PPCC took the lead after 4 minutes as a result of
F. Hendel's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0.
After 10 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
M. Ruiz Melendez gave the PPCC supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 2 - 0.
With 18 minutes played,
M. Ruiz Melendez could have brought this one home for PPCC as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
P. Durandio got himself booked. The manager of Carapenes was not happy.
R. Arceo was called on to replace Carapenes's
P. Durandio after 27 minutes following a nasty collision.
Players in PPCC heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
PPCC managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
M. Parkita cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
After this, you could see that the players of PPCC were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
PPCC's
F. Hendel got himself booked for a foul.
N. Akbaran's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Carapenes, he bravely continued in the match.
It was 3 - 0 at the break.
PPCC enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.
Coming from the right,
E. Felgueiras almost managed to score another goal for PPCC, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
Carapenes needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 71 minutes
A. Kosec made way for
G. Lau.
The score became 4 - 0 at 75 minutes into the game, when PPCC were given a penalty which
M. Ruiz Melendez blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
It wasn't a good day at all for
R. Martínez. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day.
With 79 minutes played, PPCC put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
G. Vanroose, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
PPCC had most of the ball, with 72 percent of possession.
The most dominating PPCC player was without a doubt
J. Núñez de Alava.
However,
G. Vanroose made a disastrous appearance.
N. Akbaran performed admirably for Carapenes.
On the other hand,
R. Arceo's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 0.
