The 17307 spectators at
Holm Oak Stadium were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
João Barra was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jan van Utrecht and
Chema Hernández Iruela.
Team tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Reinermann - Mcginnis, Weymarn, Håkansson - Szulc, Buttlar, Tieleman, Dufresne, Grgurić - Vekeman, Cornellana.
Ronon decided to use a 5-2-3 set up.
Starters: Lavaine - Filchev, Abadín, Zabala, Conway, Chelman - Orriols, Suelves - Essel, Michel, From.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Ronon.
Good work by the Ronon defensive line after 8 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found
V. Orriols alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide.
Slack defending gave Team a chance to take the lead with 16 minutes played, but
D. Grgurić's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition.
J. Essel showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Ronon after 18 minutes to make the score 0 - 1.
A good free kick by
K. Mcginnis would have scored the equaliser for Team, had it not been for the dramatic save by the visitors' goalkeeper.
Halftime score was 0 - 1.
Team claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 78 percent.
L. Dufresne didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
Team tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play.
Team's
A. Tieleman made a successful breakthrough on the left after 68 minutes and should have levelled the score, but instead he clipped it over the bar.
A quick counter attack by Ronon forced the opponent's defender to give away a freekick.
J. Michel was allowed to take it quickly by the referee, much to the dismay of the goalkeeper who wasn't prepared. 0 - 2!
Having just won a lot of ground following a quick turn of play, Ronon were given a free kick at a sharp angle. Rather than going for the direct shot, the defence was bypassed by a few sideways passes, giving
R. From the chance to slip through at goal. Nice teamwork! And 0 - 3, 71 minutes into the game.
After 74 minutes Team's
K. Mcginnis limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
Team had a brilliant opportunity to reply as
F. Vekeman received a high ball from the right, striking the ball in the air. Only
F. Lavaine's reflexes saved him.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Ronon coach let
R. Villaggio replace
A. Suelves after 86 minutes.
The Ronon players could smell victory in the air.
V. Orriols wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
R. Langmaier after 87 minutes.
Team had most of the ball, with 83 percent of possession.
Most important Team player was
M. Buttlar.
On the other hand,
K. Szulc's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Ronon player was without a doubt
R. From.
R. Langmaier on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 3.
