Dortmound 1 - 6 Hearts
(383161531)

16-06-2012 15.40
Clear skies welcomed the 3363 spectators who had made their way to
Dortmound FC Arena.
Péter Kriss was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Frans Lausberg and
Huub Steenland.
Dortmound had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Lineup: Agray - Axartell, Cotanda, Urrutxi, Seliştean - Gacias, Marjani, Aranzábal, Rull - Makerriain, Garitano.
Hearts tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Urponen - Gonzálvez, Puigventós, Zucchi - Navaza, Dos Santos, Pevec, Parlapiano, Gudar - Peev, Gualsoro.
Hearts were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by
S. Marjani. At last, Dortmound's
M. Gacias was able to backheel the ball in. 1 - 0.
The visitors refused to give in and, after 16 minutes,
A. Gonzálvez evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1
B. Pevec behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 17 minutes as he gave the ball away to
S. Marjani. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
The terraces were silenced after 23 minutes when Hearts's
B. Pevec put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right.
With 33 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
A. Peev of Hearts to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 3.
N. Dos Santos of Hearts was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
Halftime score was 1 - 3.
Hearts had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
C. Axartell messed up a penalty shot after 49 minutes, the ball going miles wide.
After 60 minutes, Hearts's
L. Gualsoro burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 4.
After 63 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
J. Gudar a chance to increase the lead for Hearts, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 5.
The players of Hearts now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
The Hearts players could smell victory in the air.
N. Dos Santos wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
A. Mallorca after 70 minutes.
The referee showed Dortmound's
S. Marjani the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
75 minutes into the game, Hearts were awarded a penalty and
E. Zucchi was able to increase the visitors' lead to 1 - 6 rolling the ball in by the right post.
Attacking on the wings was the choice for Hearts, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack.
Hearts's
J. Gudar made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 76 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
L. Gualsoro wanted to play on, but the Hearts coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 80 minutes into the game by
J. Acosta.
Hearts's
J. Acosta left the field after 82 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
P. Violi.
Hearts enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 75 percent of possession.
G. Makerriain performed admirably for Dortmound.
However,
S. Agray made a disastrous appearance.
Hearts's top performer was clearly
A. Peev.
P. Violi turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 6.
