The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 12000 had shown up at
El Cerrillo for the match.
Seran Navarro was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Geir Mortensen and
Johann Müllner.
Fernanduko decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Brčanski - Mangiaterra, Fuset, Žulkus - Seet, Rebull, Sandoval, Mabry, Bergenhenegouwen - Nairn, Carvalho.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Morvedre.
The following players had been chosen: Ramiro Muñoz - Lepe, Otxoantezana, Uxue, Ivars - Ipinza, Menart, Barla - Cruzado, van Ostade, Berebide.
Some great play up the middle by Fernanduko led to a chance for
D. Mabry to score after 11 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
Morvedre almost scored after a swift counterattack 12 minutes into the game, but
T. van Ostade put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal.
Fernanduko made it 1 - 0 as
I. Nairn got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
M. Rebull who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Fernanduko scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Carvalho after 30 minutes.
The players of Fernanduko now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
Morvedre breathed new life into the game with an opportunity to reduce the score after 31 minutes, but the home side's defenders cleared the ball on the line, after a long shot coming in from the left rebounded off the crossbar.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
V. Žulkus got himself booked. The manager of Fernanduko was not happy.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Fernanduko claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.
The coach of Fernanduko was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 46 minutes,
C. Anselmi came on for
V. Žulkus.
Fernanduko's
J. Mangiaterra swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.
J. Carvalho wanted to play on, but the Fernanduko coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 70 minutes into the game by
E. Eknes.
T. van Ostade of Morvedre was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
The Fernanduko players could smell victory in the air.
J. Bergenhenegouwen wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
J. Muñoz Miralles after 80 minutes.
With 84 minutes played, Fernanduko put themselves up 3 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
E. Eknes, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Fernanduko's
C. Seet saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 85 minutes.
88 minutes in,
B. Berebide made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but
A. Brčanski refused to let the ball slip by him.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Fernanduko, with 58 percent of the ball.
Fernanduko's best player was
I. Nairn.
M. Rebull turned in a dismal performance, however.
Morvedre's top performer was clearly
R. Ivars.
P. Uxue on the other hand, had a terrible day.
