previous 10/10 next 2/10  Mallorca 10 - 0 Bassago (383222505)

Due to an all-day shower, 14980 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Mallorca Stadium. Xosé Arxóns was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Philip Loibl and Octavian Diaconescu. Mallorca tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Serban - Carris, Weening, Bregantin - Mullers, Mullenders, Kratz, Andrisani, Menéndez - Książek, Landolt.

A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Bassago. Lineup: Zapatero - Diosdat, Pombo, Guamán - Grijalvo, Colaci, Gutiérrez de Cossio, Gartzitorena - Genov, Brader, Ockenhouse.

Mallorca seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. It was a bad day for the usually speedy G. Bregantin. The mud seemed to slow him down. Mallorca's G. Bregantin got himself booked for a foul. After 7 minutes, T. Landolt came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Mallorca the lead. Mallorca were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Cheers filled the stadium as C. Menéndez broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Mallorca. C. Menéndez was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on! A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Mallorca's C. Menéndez increasing the lead to 3 - 0. Coming in on the left, M. Gartzitorena did everything right to get a goal for Bassago after 37 minutes, but his finishing shot was stabbed clear by the keeper. Halftime score was 3 - 0. Mallorca had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.

Things were deteriorating for the away team as Mallorca scored another to make it 4 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for L. Andrisani after 56 minutes. After this, you could see that the players of Mallorca were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. M. Książek left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 60 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. M. López Martínez was the replacement. After 62 minutes, M. Mullers put Mallorca ahead 5 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. M. Mullers was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. However, Mallorca's O. Weening managed to get hold of the rebound and tucked the ball into the empty net. 6 - 0 M. Mullers wanted to play on, but the Mallorca coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 71 minutes into the game by J. Barbosa. Mallorca managed to extend their lead to 7 - 0 when L. Andrisani cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 82 minutes in, Bassago's F. Diosdat received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Unfortunately for Mallorca, L. Andrisani was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. L. Henestrosa replaced him. M. López Martínez was handed the Mallorca captain's armband. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. L. Henestrosa squirmed through their central defence after 85 minutes, increasing the lead to 8 - 0. Mallorca players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 87 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as C. Menéndez broke through, making the score 9 - 0 for Mallorca. At that, C. Menéndez was noted down for a hat trick! Mallorca's I. Kratz increased the lead to 10 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 89 minutes. Mallorca enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.

M. López Martínez performed admirably for Mallorca. G. Bregantin turned in a dismal performance, however. Bassago's best player was F. Brader. M. Colaci on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 10 - 0.
