previous 1/10 next 3/10  Duffman 1 - 0 Oscar (383276139)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Duffman Arena saw a crowd turnout of 12000. Jan Grendel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jeroen van der Velde and Ragner Beldal. Duffman had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Alinbarrena - Beaz, Lacasa, Bassets, Tortosa Saavedra - Eguren, Macedonia, Urgoiti-Aldekozea, Pérez - Silvestre, Leven.

Oscar tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. Starters: Luca de Tena - Talbi, Malvárez, Milán, Igarza - Penela, Schulz-Hoffmann, Wajdi, Bibiloni - Dempere, Souteliño.

Some things can only be learned through experience, and G. Urgoiti-Aldekozea should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Oscar a goal with 9 minutes of the match played. Slack defending gave Duffman a chance to take the lead with 16 minutes played, but G. Urgoiti-Aldekozea's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. After 19 minutes, Oscar were awarded a free kick as their counter attack broke down. The set piece was lifted over the top, intended to open up the defence. However, the target man seemed to be taken by surprise, and could not reach the ball before it crossed the line for a goal kick. 26 minutes into the game, a swerving free kick by N. Beaz almost resulted in the home team taking the lead, but the shot glanced harmlessly off the frame of the goal. After 27 minutes, the defensive line of Oscar created a counterattack through the middle that gave L. Souteliño a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Duffman, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.

With 67 minutes played, L. Souteliño of Oscar fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 82 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from R. Pérez, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Duffman had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.

Duffman's top performer was clearly L. Lacasa. L. Alinbarrena on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Oscar player was F. Malvárez. J. Luca de Tena was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 0.
