Catalonia took the lead 7 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as
V. Hernández elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
A. Ibargurengoitia of Rangers was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Catalonia tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
M. Casani slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 0, 18 minutes into the game.
25 minutes in, Catalonia's
M. Vázquez Huertas received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
In a fantastic display of determination, Rangers's
S. Domenge forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
E. González-Llano hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving Catalonia's
L. Sacaluga an easy chance to knock it in for 3 - 0.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Catalonia's
M. Chirimías increasing the lead to 4 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Catalonia lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Catalonia's
V. Hernández had an excellent opportunity after 35 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
Halftime score was 4 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Catalonia, with 64 percent of the ball.
With 61 minutes played, Catalonia put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
N. Pérez de Guzmán, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Catalonia managed to extend their lead to 6 - 0 when
M. Chirimías cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Catalonia scored another to make it 7 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
A. Noms after 70 minutes.
Rangers were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 79 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to
S. Domenge, who smashed it home to make the score 7 - 1.
Cheers filled the stadium as
N. Pérez de Guzmán broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 8 - 1 to Catalonia.
Possession in this half belonged to Catalonia, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.
Most important Catalonia player was
V. Hernández.
R. Pallé on the other hand, had a terrible day.
M. Polán performed admirably for Rangers.
However,
A. Falcó made a disastrous appearance.
