previous 6/10 next 8/10  Culé 1 - 0 EuroFran (383324173)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Culé Team Arena saw a crowd turnout of 6187. Jean-Rémy Faucon was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Erkan Durukan and Tomek Grabarski. Culé tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. They fielded: Bertrán - La Serna, Hom, Antolín, Sáenz Río - Marín Duro, Cussó, Baubí, Marañón - Abarrategi, Corts.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for EuroFran. Lineup: Fillol - Cuartango, Tomé, Negreanu, Vert - Coria, Doniániz, Hassani, Ussía - Olano, Maestro Lista.

Given a free kick in a difficult position after 7 minutes, Culé tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. P. Baubí's lack of experience almost gave EuroFran a goal after 26 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. They were singing the praises of J. Antolín 27 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Culé. 36 minutes in, Culé's B. Cussó received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Culé claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

An equalising goal seemed certain after 60 minutes when J. Olano attacked down the left wing, but S. Bertrán just managed to make a save to keep the ball out of the net. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave P. Baubí from Culé a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 68 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! B. Cussó could have increased the lead after 75 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Culé put in a good effort on the right, but R. La Serna saw his volley fly wide of the mark 79 minutes into the game. Culé had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

Most important Culé player was R. La Serna. However, P. Baubí made a disastrous appearance. EuroFran's best player was J. Ussía. D. Doniániz turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 0.
