20803 spectators arrived at
Starto Stadionas, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Gabriele Ettlin was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sıtkı Apak and
Len Lemming.
Startas started off with a 5-3-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Majda - Olech, Lamey, Baktys, Larsen, Volovc - Hoveling, Vansteenwinkel, Verdier - Syraezhka.
Stars tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Starters: Bóveda - Fiume, Cadavedo, Sitek - Jøsendal, Carreira, Maréchal, Villani, Castronovo - Övel, Marimbaldo Díaz.
Startas clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Stars showed off their creative tactics.
3 minutes into the game,
B. Sitek had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
Startas were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 4 minutes, but
R. Syraezhka lofted a free kick over the crossbar.
B. Sitek came close to putting the visiting team one up 15 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
G. Majda managed to tip the ball to a corner.
The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 30 minutes. Stars's
V. Maréchal kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 32 minutes, Stars did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
A. Cadavedo was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 2.
Startas's
G. Baktys was shown a yellow card after 35 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Halftime score was 0 - 2.
Stars enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
56 minutes in, Startas appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
weak.
The referee showed Startas's
C. Volovc the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
The home crowd cheered when, after 72 minutes,
N. Castronovo's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
After 73 minutes, a counter attack by Startas was converted into a decent free kick opportunity. However, the indirect free kick routine was easily anticipated by the defenders. A textbook example of how to defend a free kick - the attackers were left with few viable options.
Startas's
S. Lamey got himself booked for a foul.
B. Jøsendal of Stars had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
G. Popovičius came in to finish the match.
84 minutes into the match,
G. Carreira came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
After 85 minutes, the defensive line of Startas created a counterattack through the middle that gave
S. Lamey a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
Unsportsmanlike behaviour by
S. Lamey rendered him his second booking of the match, and Startas had to finish the game with a reduced squad.
A drive down the left side allowed
A. Övel to get in close and score another goal for Stars after 89 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3.
After this, you could see that the players of Stars were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Possession in this half belonged to Stars, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.
Startas's best player was
G. Baktys.
F. Olech was a disappointment, however.
Stars's top performer was clearly
V. Maréchal.
On the other hand,
G. Popovičius's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 3.
