23-06-2012 15.20
A scorching day at
Phoenix Rangers Arena, where 42907 spectators were in place for today's match.
Anton Babka was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Atro Hämäläinen and
Ola Åhnmar.
People from all over
Vilnius had joined up for the derby.
Phoenix tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination.
Lineup: Mitiurevas - Diržkus, Bublevičius, Banackas, Virkėtis, Rubinskas - Medori, Hrůza, Szaszovszky, Dilkas - Nuthmann.
Ultras started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
They fielded: Mühlenstedt - Ribera, Dürsteler, Haanperä, Markettos - Ramsteck, Ševčík, La Manna, Baptiste - Turbay, Kasanen.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Phoenix.
E. Bublevičius of Phoenix seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
M. Medori.
G. La Manna made a run for the goal 8 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
Phoenix managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
A. Nuthmann cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Ultras's
D. Turbay had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 23 minutes having been played.
Y. Devaux was the replacement.
After 29 minutes a very unfortunate collision in the penalty area led to Ultras's
E. Markettos being carried off the pitch and replaced by
M. Marmatakis.
Y. Devaux's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for
E. Bublevičius. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball.
M. Medori had a fantastic opportunity to put Phoenix up another goal 34 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Ultras claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
Ultras fought on and, after 55 minutes,
J. Baptiste was able to reduce the deficit to 2 - 1 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip.
Y. Devaux enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again.
The visiting team's
G. La Manna was able to score the 2 - 2 equaliser with a header 76 minutes into the match, after some good work on the right.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 81 minutes into the match, and
A. Kasanen wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 2 - 3 for the visitors.
Ultras enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.
The most dominating Phoenix player was without a doubt
J. Hrůza.
R. Dilkas on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Ultras player was
J. Ševčík.
However,
M. Marmatakis made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 3.
