Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 23100 to
FFA.
Vasko Slavov was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Nick Trautner and
Daniel Stoschka.
KAvenska started off with a 2-5-3 lineup.
Lineup: Barauskis - Delange, Čiopas - Krčma, Zetterström, Chepovskiy, Hafsteinsson, Rozenbergs - Peltea, Gudmanas, Kapustinskas.
Lakameka had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Volynecas - Charlapavičius, Drabužinskis, Gustainis, Alchimavičius - Keburis, Gudimov, Puzakinas, Imbras - Čiuchrijus, Cimalionskas.
KAvenska were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
After 22 minutes, Lakameka put themselves up 0 - 1, as
M. Čiuchrijus finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
After 27 minutes, KAvenska were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
A. Peltea did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
With 28 minutes played,
A. Alchimavičius of Lakameka fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
With the clock showing 30 minutes played,
E. Zetterström equalised for KAvenska after curling a free kick around the defensive wall to make the score 1 - 1.
KAvenska took the lead 35 minutes in, as
T. Chepovskiy broke through on the left and put the 2 - 1 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
Lakameka's
A. Alchimavičius had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 40 minutes having been played.
R. Paršaitis was the replacement.
Lakameka mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 43 minutes, but
M. Čiuchrijus was unable to convert from short range.
M. Keburis of Lakameka received a yellow card after 44 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
KAvenska put themselves up 3 - 1 when
A. Peltea broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
After this, you could see that the players of KAvenska were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
A late sliding challenge from
M. Keburis was deemed to be his second yellow card offence by the referee, resulting in him being sent off, and Lakameka left a man down.
Due to a severely mistimed tackle,
V. Kapustinskas of KAvenska spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.
3 - 1 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by KAvenska, with 79 percent of the ball.
After 65 minutes,
J. Krčma put KAvenska ahead 4 - 1 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
It was obvious that KAvenska had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
KAvenska's
A. Peltea increased the lead to 5 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 66 minutes.
In a rapid move 74 minutes into the match,
K. Gudmanas of KAvenska lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
V. Kapustinskas who easily hit it home to make it 6 - 1. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy!
KAvenska were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
With 79 minutes played, KAvenska's
M. Čiopas almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
Coming in from the right, Lakameka had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 80 minutes, but
M. Čiuchrijus's attempt to finish was easily stopped.
After 81 minutes, KAvenska's
E. Zetterström found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 7 - 1.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
T. Chepovskiy squirmed through their central defence after 83 minutes, increasing the lead to 8 - 1.
KAvenska claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 82 percent.
KAvenska's top performer was clearly
A. Peltea.
On the other hand,
J. Krčma's play was disheartening.
J. Cimalionskas performed admirably for Lakameka.
A. Gudimov was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 8 - 1.
