previous 9/10 next 1/10  Bratislava 5 - 0 Michalovce (383785876)

Clear skies welcomed the 53403 spectators who had made their way to Makarov arena. Vágner Cavalcante was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ferdinand Hildesheim and Tomáš Križka. Bratislava started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. They fielded: Rey - Bogdalík, Kumaraku, Lénárt - Kakaščík, Pohovej, Durica, Dulina - Cabafi, Budovský, Dunda.

A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Michalovce. The following players had been chosen: Polet - Garcea, Predáč, Jakubčiak, Nederveld, Boška - Hodáň, Schiattarella, Piroh - Naháč, Capo.

Michalovce clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Bratislava made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left L. Cabafi completely alone with keeper J. Polet, who made a spectacular block. A foul called during a Michalovce counterattack resulted in a great chance to score, but R. Naháč's shot rattled off the post. With 30 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as M. Kakaščík flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Cheers filled the stadium as M. Kakaščík broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Bratislava. Michalovce had to make a substitution after 32 minutes. P. Jakubčiak limped off the field and was replaced by R. Tomadlík. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Bratislava claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 76 percent.

Bratislava managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when R. Pohovej cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After this, you could see that the players of Bratislava were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. The home side's G. Bogdalík curled a free kick home after 67 minutes, putting Bratislava ahead 4 - 0. Bratislava were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 75 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by G. Bogdalík. 5 - 0 for the home side. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 80 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called Michalovce's I. Hodáň to one side and produced a red card for the player. Bratislava had most of the ball, with 78 percent of possession.

The most dominating Bratislava player was without a doubt E. Dunda. B. Kumaraku was a disappointment, however. Most important Michalovce player was R. Naháč. R. Tomadlík turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 5 - 0.
