previous 1/10 next 3/10  Juve 2 - 1 Al-Bournou (383867673)

Clear skies welcomed the 42492 spectators who had made their way to Stadio Artemio Franchi. Heřman Tomšíček was the appointed referee with assistance provided by René Heeringa and José María Baquerizo. Juve decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Staufer-Waldert - Cucca, Tavares, Bigaglia - Galtarossa, Balogh, Szepesi, Nemecsek, Lengyel - Kažoks, Lewin.

Al-Bournou had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation. They fielded: Olas - Flender, Maset, Salvato, Kadykov - Dzelzītis, Kejlberg, Makrodimitris - Fodor, Lý, Aspesi.

Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Al-Bournou. Some great play up the middle by Juve led to a chance for A. Galtarossa to score after 3 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Juve took the lead, 1 - 0, after a penalty 10 minutes into the match. R. Lewin scored from the penalty spot. After 19 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Al-Bournou was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. M. Lengyel tried using a burst of speed to get past his defender after 21 minutes, but it takes more than that to get past fast I. Flender. Al-Bournou mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 25 minutes, but L. Lý was unable to convert from short range. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Juve, with 70 percent of the ball.

Al-Bournou's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing L. Lý to score easily from the right flank for 1 - 1. 70 minutes into the game, Al-Bournou wanted to bring some new energy to their game. A. Dzelzītis gave D. Lista a quick hug as he left the field. Al-Bournou had to make a substitution after 79 minutes. M. Kadykov limped off the field and was replaced by P. Wiśnios. M. Olas had to be alert to tip R. Lewin's fantastic penalty kick over the bar, denying Juve a chance at the lead. After 86 minutes of play, G. Bigaglia gave the home team a 2 - 1 lead after an attack coming in from the right. Al-Bournou needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 86 minutes G. Salvato made way for N. Niedrig. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, I. Flender got himself booked. The manager of Al-Bournou was not happy. Juve had most of the ball, with 70 percent of possession.

Juve's best player was S. Balogh. On the other hand, C. Cucca's play was disheartening. The most dominating Al-Bournou player was without a doubt L. Lý. D. Lista was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 1.
