07-07-2012 15.30
The 40000 spectators at
David Hasselhoff Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Remigiusz Pietras was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Lasse Rantanen and
Ivan Aksentijević.
Savaria started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Pepi - Parrado, Lejiņš, Jang - Pisciotta, Udvarácz, Tóth, Punzmann, Ginga - Bényei, Bartolomei.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Family.
The following players took the field: Polichronos - Villa, Stathatos, Goldinger - Alter, Machlik, Daskalov, Adsersen, Squillante - Carvalho Reis, Mariucci.
It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why
Y. Stathatos found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 35 minutes, Family did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
G. Mariucci was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1.
With 38 minutes having been played, Savaria scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but
B. Lejiņš was marked down as the scorer.
Halftime score was 1 - 1.
Savaria had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
Savaria broke through on the left 47 minutes into the game, with
N. Udvarácz firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 2 - 1 lead.
The home side's
N. Tóth came close to extending the lead 61 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
M. Polichronos managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
With 72 minutes played,
N. Udvarácz of Savaria fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
T. Squillante found it hard to get back into position.
A. Pisciotta unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
Savaria's
B. Lejiņš swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Savaria, with 55 percent of the ball.
Most important Savaria player was
A. Punzmann.
V. Pepi on the other hand, had a terrible day.
A. Adsersen performed admirably for Family.
L. Alter was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 2 - 1.
