16850 fans braved the pouring rain at
FU Arena.
Dolf Honkoop was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Władysław Lasecki and
Paride Marri.
A 5-5-0 alignment was the formation of choice for Falusi.
They fielded: Stokke - Stoszek, Katona, Békés, Tőkei, Király - Redzkin, Cardino, Singleton, Blanco, Robbens -.
BurgerFC had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Lecouturier - Katelis, Clar Montes, Herrling-Schreiber - Ccorihuamán, Faran, Antolli, Frank Jensen, Perillo - Maillot, Bruusgaard.
Pressing was the tactic of the day for Falusi.
BurgerFC were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
P. Katona spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch.
The pressing tactics used by Falusi were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
25 minutes into the game, Falusi seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
I. Singleton was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions.
A penalty was given after 39 minutes, allowing the visitors to gain the lead: 0 - 1.
I. Clar Montes was the scorer.
At this time in the match, Falusi were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
It was 0 - 1 at the break.
BurgerFC had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
A review of the gameplan helped Falusi get back to a
solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
51 minutes into the game, Falusi had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
passable.
After 55 minutes, Falusi switched
I. Robbens with
S. Spaljević, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit
M. Maillot just fine.
The BurgerFC players could smell victory in the air.
M. Maillot wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
F. Kalnietis after 70 minutes.
The BurgerFC captaincy was handed to
U. Perillo.
BurgerFC were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
79 minutes in, Falusi's
I. Singleton received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
F. Kalnietis could have put his team up another goal 83 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
The referee showed BurgerFC's
J. Ccorihuamán the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
J. Blanco's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Falusi, he bravely continued in the match.
With the scoreboard showing that 86 minutes had been played, BurgerFC nearly put themselves up another goal after
L. Bruusgaard came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
The game was close to savage at times, and Falusi's
I. Singleton received a second yellow card after 87 minutes; his ticket out of the game.
BurgerFC claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.
Falusi's top performer was clearly
S. Spaljević.
P. Katona on the other hand, had a terrible day.
R. Antolli performed admirably for BurgerFC.
J. Ccorihuamán turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 1.
