The 54056 spectators at the cage were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Raúl Eguiguren was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Leonid Tregubov and András Zsoldos. A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Tommys. They fielded: Ekim - Arrieta, Tóth, Ripollés - Kelčák, Lund, Lattenberg, Neminski - Bjørnstad, Gassner, Partanen.

Poteten decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Romsåshagen - Nordskog, Bråthen, Simonsen - Halvorsen, Johansen, Nilsen, Gyllenstrand - Melby, Tveit, Sundli.

M. Nilsen hit the ball perfectly after 15 minutes to score for Poteten with a fabulous long shot. 0 - 1. M. Nilsen of Poteten was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. After the ball was lifted in from the left, H. Sundli was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 32 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. Tommys's L. Tóth refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 34 minutes. Tommys equalised after 35 minutes after a brilliantly placed penalty by M. Lund. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Poteten had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

Poteten's M. Tveit has the wonderful ability to create chances out of thin air. 47 minutes into the match he bamboozled a couple of opposition defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way and sidefooting the ball home into an empty net. That totally unexpected burst of flair made it 1 - 2. With the crowd on their feet chanting wildly, some great moves down the right hand side after 50 minutes gave Tommys a wonderful opportunity to level the score, and N. Partanen stepped up to the challenge. 2 - 2 After 55 minutes, B. Gassner came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 3 - 2, giving Tommys the lead. The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs E. Ripollés found it hard to get back into position. The visitors didn't give in and, after 67 minutes, H. Sundli got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 3 - 3. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, L. Tóth scored for Tommys putting them ahead 4 - 3, after 70 minutes. After 74 minutes Poteten's P. Nordskog contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. After 84 minutes, Tommys's B. Gassner fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! A great save by keeper B. Romsåshagen after 86 minutes kept the visitors in the game after D. Kelčák struck from the left with a real cannonball. The game was close to savage at times, and Poteten's M. Nilsen received a second yellow card after 88 minutes; his ticket out of the game. Possession in this half belonged to Tommys, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

J. Lattenberg performed admirably for Tommys. U. Ekim on the other hand, had a terrible day. Poteten's top performer was clearly M. Tveit. B. Romsåshagen was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 3.
