50000 spectators had come to
Bruise Palace this cloudy day.
The derby had been the talk of
Lothian all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
Baad tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Middler - Whitefoot, Drãgut, Welshot, Burnshire, McIntyre - Mück, Kilner, Shandwick - Filomeno, Rowand.
A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for SNELDERS.
They fielded: Carrasco - Perver, Miller, Virpi, Gordey, Masquelier - Işın, Broschek, Osores, Sjöbrant - Dias Guerreiro.
Baad took a creative approach on the field.
SNELDERS clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
SNELDERS almost scored after a swift counterattack 12 minutes into the game, but
M. Perver put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
I. Gordey from SNELDERS a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 29 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
A well placed corner kick from
J. Welshot was followed by
K. Shandwick's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Baad, the score now 1 - 0.
32 minutes into the match
J. Welshot put Baad ahead 2 - 0 with a truly marvelous free kick.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Baad had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
The home side's
J. Welshot curled a free kick home after 55 minutes, putting Baad ahead 3 - 0.
After this, you could see that the players of Baad were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
K. Shandwick of Baad received a yellow card after 58 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
The coach of Baad was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 65 minutes,
G. MacBaxter came on for
C. Filomeno.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. MacBaxter broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Baad.
R. Rowand could have increased the lead after 68 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
With the clock showing 71 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of SNELDERS resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
A. Işın in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
Baad's
J. Welshot struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 5 - 0 after 73 minutes.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
J. Welshot.
Baad enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 67 percent of possession.
Baad's top performer was clearly
D. Middler.
However,
J. Welshot made a disastrous appearance.
Most important SNELDERS player was
T. Virpi.
E. Carrasco was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 5 - 0.
