previous 6/10 next 8/10  Rangers 8 - 0 Livingston (384268418)

3458 fans braved the pouring rain at The Grave. Stefan Immensoll was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jalmar Olumets and Niklas Ivarsson. Rangers decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players took the field: Herbogo - Muurling, MacKnight, Kerr - MacCowan, Spasojević, House, McLeod, Francis - Thomson, Árva.

Livingston started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Lineup: McPartland - Gotobed, Campbell, Griffiths, Scotney - Cullen, MacEwan, Knox, Snowden - Sexsmith, Shields.

With the match clock at 1 minutes, Rangers modified their style of play a little bit. After 1 minutes, the Rangers coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach. Priding himself in being an active coach, the Rangers manager gave new instructions to his players after 1 minutes. The coach of Rangers wanted to try to change things around after 1 minutes, and gave new tactical instructions. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to E. House, but the Rangers player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! 32 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as W. Muurling broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Rangers. The Rangers free kick 34 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of F. MacKnight, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 3 - 0! At this point, it was obvious that the players of Rangers lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Rangers's W. Muurling increasing the lead to 4 - 0. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Rangers to 5 - 0 as W. Muurling finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for W. Muurling. Halftime score was 5 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rangers, with 65 percent of the ball.

The Rangers players could smell victory in the air. J. Thomson wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for A. Rougemont after 68 minutes. The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but D. MacEwan showed great heart and had a good game. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Rangers scored another to make it 6 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for A. Francis after 85 minutes. After 87 minutes Rangers's F. MacKnight limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. With 87 minutes played, E. House could have brought this one home for Rangers as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Rangers managed to extend their lead to 7 - 0 when L. Árva cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. K. MacCowan managed to make an excellent pass from the flank, but A. Rougemont was not as skillfull in scoring. With 89 minutes played, Rangers put themselves up 8 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to A. Francis, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Rangers claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 68 percent.

E. House performed admirably for Rangers. B. McLeod on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Livingston player was without a doubt O. Snowden. A. McPartland was a disappointment, however. The match ends 8 - 0.
