47040 spectators had come to
Arena "Auf Koelsch" this cloudy day.
Sicco Nap was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Lance Jemahl and
Cesare Ariosto.
Koelsch started off with a 5-3-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Haunzwickl - Dernoncourt, Lehuède, Kropman, Challier, Dueñas - Habl, Bullerdieck, Wulfsdorf - Sayavera, Böttche.
A 5-5-0 alignment was the formation of choice for Waldplatz.
Lineup: Frederiksz - Jovanović, Pouru, Ilten, Wich, Davidov - Pesenti, Calzolari, Malsburg, Duisterwinkel, Varjus -.
Koelsch used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
T. Böttche's speed was clear to see after 5 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released
P. Sayavera who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1 - 0.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Koelsch's
T. Böttche increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
J. Dernoncourt could have put Koelsch up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 21 minutes.
H. Bullerdieck of Koelsch seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 3 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
H. Habl.
Koelsch had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
H. Habl could have increased the lead after 33 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 35 minute mark, Koelsch's
H. Habl hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
With 42 minutes played,
H. Habl of Koelsch fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
It was 3 - 0 at the break.
Koelsch claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 79 percent.
The home side's
A. Dueñas came close to extending the lead 49 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
H. Frederiksz managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
With 57 minutes played, Koelsch's
J. Dernoncourt almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
62 minutes in, Waldplatz's
I. Wich received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Koelsch were forced into a substitution as
J. Wulfsdorf couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
F. Gren to come in off the bench.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
B. Kropman should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Waldplatz a goal with 73 minutes of the match played.
After 74 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
H. Habl might have resulted in another goal for Koelsch. However,
H. Frederiksz made a spectacular save.
Koelsch enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 80 percent of possession.
T. Böttche performed admirably for Koelsch.
B. Kropman turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Waldplatz player was without a doubt
H. Frederiksz.
On the other hand,
I. Calzolari's play was disheartening.
The match ends 3 - 0.
