previous 2/10 next 4/10  Borussia 2 - 1 PIPA (384283614)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 47000 had shown up at Herken Dome for the match. Albrecht Schöneweide was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gábor Bekő and Pier Federico Campitelli. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Borussia. They fielded: Kesten - Pavone, Dalla Casa, Frummet, Krinner - Grauszer, Puma, Fraeking, Faide - Schlauer, Meerman.

PIPA started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Lineup: Cuquejo - Akçam, Biberstein, Alting, Malin - Borean, Froschauer, Zalán, Bussecker - Da Vinci, Huynh.

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of PIPA. Borussia took the lead after 30 minutes as a result of C. Meerman's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0. Borussia managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when A. Schlauer cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After this, you could see that the players of Borussia were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Borussia enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.

After 55 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by A. Schlauer might have resulted in another goal for Borussia. However, A. Cuquejo made a spectacular save. PIPA's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision! R. Huynh's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper. M. Da Vinci had a couple of good opportunities to reply, but the home team's keeper C. Kesten was simply unbeatable. 75 minutes into the game, R. Frummet had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came H. Bendig. R. Huynh's speed was clear to see after 84 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released M. Da Vinci who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 2 - 1. Borussia claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

Most important Borussia player was D. Krinner. S. Puma turned in a dismal performance, however. PIPA's top performer was clearly M. Da Vinci. On the other hand, H. Alting's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 1.
