Clear skies welcomed the 22546 spectators who had made their way to
Mestalla.
Yens Vrielinck was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Federico Raggio and
Joan Valenti.
Wolfen decided to use a 5-4-1 set up.
Starters: Langenberger - Spasojević, El-Ubaid, Tiedemanns, Musow, Degenkolbe - Meiboeck, Karlshof, Diebels, Pollrich - Marcu.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Augrauba.
They fielded: Schifano - Panasiewicz, Jarillot, Kotwas - Boxleitner, Neuerburg, Stycka, Kallert - Bañales, Krannich, Maican.
Wolfen used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field.
16 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
H. Bañales, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
The pressing tactics used by Wolfen were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 27 minutes allowed
H. Bañales to score for Augrauba. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
0 - 1 was the halftime score.
Augrauba claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 79 percent.
C. Jarillot received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 48 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Augrauba fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
Augrauba increased their lead after 53 minutes when
A. Kotwas broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
K. Neuerburg wanted to play on, but the Augrauba coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 54 minutes into the game by
J. Eilersen.
The coach of Augrauba was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 55 minutes,
J. Leubsdorf came on for
H. Stycka.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Augrauba lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Augrauba coach let
J. Lettrich replace
G. Maican after 61 minutes.
With 63 minutes played,
J. Lettrich of Augrauba fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
H. Bañales could have added one to the visitors' lead if his free kick had gone just a little lower.
Augrauba's
S. Krannich soared above the crowd, but couldn't knock the corner home 74 minutes into the match.
H. Bañales of Augrauba took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 77 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 4.
The visitors'
S. Krannich took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 78 minutes into the match. 0 - 5 for Augrauba.
With 80 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
J. Eilersen of Augrauba to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 6.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Augrauba, with 82 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Wolfen player was without a doubt
E. Musow.
R. Diebels was a disappointment, however.
Most important Augrauba player was
H. Bañales.
J. Leubsdorf turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 6.
