Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 25392 to Maiglöckchen-Arena. Antonio Sanz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Håkan Björking and Mirosław Nowogrodzki. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Niedersachsen derby and the crowd was divided evenly. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Scharrel/City. With 8 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. P. Henault put the ball away for 0 - 1. The corner kick from M. Rossignol was powerfully met by the head of F. Höse to make the score 1 - 1. The home keeper expected a move to the right, but R. Lindenberger surprised him with a free kick aimed the other way 38 minutes into the match. 1 - 2 for Sportsfreunde. Scharrel/City had to make a substitution after 39 minutes. M. Rossignol limped off the field and was replaced by J. Engelsberger. With 40 minutes played, G. Laplanche nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. P. Rattier could have put his team up another goal 43 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. 1 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Sportsfreunde, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.

The visitors almost increased their lead after 47 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar. The visitors' R. Lindenberger took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 81 minutes into the match. 1 - 3 for Sportsfreunde. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave F. Höse from Scharrel/City a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 83 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when N. Hebrtshausen scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 2 - 3. Scharrel/City's A. Bastin put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 86 minutes, but the ball went wide. E. Conti got a fingertip on P. Henault's shot from the left 87 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. Sportsfreunde enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

Scharrel/City's best player was J. Hanon. J. Engelsberger was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Sportsfreunde player was without a doubt H. Plese. However, G. Laplanche made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 3.
