The 18971 fans in attendance at
Millern-Arena were roasting in the hot sun.
Rintje Blummel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Andreas Richardsson and
Valdemar Valente.
gebrochene started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Turuelo - Gurkowski, Callari, Deblitz, Crombez - Crespi, Mei, Osta Font, Estúñiga - Zaiem, Shukakidze.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for FCB.
The following players had been chosen: Geană - Zovak, Achenbach - Cristina, Novgorod, Breidenbach, Mudrik, Scott - Kroeger, Schenckendorff, Weber.
For their match strategy, gebrochene had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
FCB showed off their creative tactics.
H. Novgorod hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving FCB's
P. Kroeger an easy chance to knock it in for 0 - 1.
T. Cristina increased FCB's lead to 0 - 2 with a superb free kick strike that flew in just under the far top corner.
After 33 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
P. Kroeger who increased FCB's lead to 0 - 3.
Confident in their lead, FCB's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
0 - 3 was the halftime score.
FCB claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 58 minutes, FCB did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
B. Schenckendorff was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 4.
T. Cristina of FCB received a yellow card after 73 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
B. Schenckendorff's tried to storm through the defence after 75 minutes, but
U. Callari was just too fast to shake off and the rest of the defence got back to cover.
A marvellous gebrochene effort on the right-hand side resulted in a goal after 77 minutes by
W. Deblitz, making the score 1 - 4.
V. Shukakidze charged down the left and looked sure to score for gebrochene 79 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, gebrochene's
W. Gurkowski was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 80 minutes.
S. Tezsan was given a chance to change things around.
E. Crespi didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
The home crowd cheered when, after 84 minutes,
A. Zovak's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Y. Mudrik from FCB a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 87 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
W. Zaiem was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so gebrochene's
J. Konopko had to come off the bench.
Possession in this half belonged to FCB, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
gebrochene's top performer was clearly
V. Shukakidze.
J. Konopko turned in a dismal performance, however.
FCB's best player was
P. Kroeger.
A. Scott on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 4.
