Dark skies made the crowd of 30500 at
Turbine Konrad Stadion a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Mario Tendi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Arif Utina and
Cálico Castellnou.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Turbine.
The following players had been chosen: Selter - Eisermann, Kivinurm, Chichorro - Truszczyński, Buitenwerf, Friesacher, Pleyán, Čechovský - Roggosin, Klonari.
Bembelpetzer started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Wittermann - Anderlei, Kohout, Hadzic - Hoefer, Fors, Roepstorff, Tschiltsch, Travemünder - Klika, Boeske.
T. Hadzic came close to putting the visiting team one up 4 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
P. Selter managed to tip the ball to a corner.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Hoefer from Bembelpetzer a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 22 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
27 minutes into the game,
P. Selter had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
U. Pfab.
The home keeper expected a move to the right, but
P. Kohout surprised him with a free kick aimed the other way 30 minutes into the match. 0 - 1 for Bembelpetzer.
The Bembelpetzer free kick 36 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
H. Anderlei, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 0 - 2!
By now, the players in Bembelpetzer felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
0 - 2 was the halftime score.
Bembelpetzer enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
M. Truszczyński was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
P. Roggosin seemed unable to profit from this excellent service.
81 minutes in, Bembelpetzer's
P. Kohout received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
With 85 minutes played,
F. Boeske nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
After 86 minutes, Turbine surprised their opponents with a breakaway counter attack. The defenders had to resort to a foul to stop it. The free kick that followed was a clever indirect effort that almost succeeded, but the defence read the situation well and the intended recipient was left ruing what might have been.
Bembelpetzer had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.
Turbine's top performer was clearly
I. Pleyán.
U. Pfab was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating Bembelpetzer player was without a doubt
H. Fors.
M. Wittermann turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 2.
