Dark skies made the crowd of 28900 at
Schweinekamp a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Grant Frederick was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Magnus Ulfner and
Faas Pinterman.
The derby had been the talk of
Niedersachsen all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
Sentrup had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Kersch - Tartaglione, Birnbaum-Sums, Kelder - Jado, Machu, Ehrler, Masoli, Totano - Stanimirov, Christensen.
Bergkrug decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Kushnir - Jasiukajć, Gomersbach, Loli, Cornillon - Depiaggi, Mollet, Bosvelt, Centrella, Kramer - Knölstrand.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Bergkrug.
They were singing the praises of
G. Tartaglione 10 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Sentrup.
With 12 minutes gone,
A. Gomersbach suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Bergkrug caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
Sentrup's
G. Ehrler left the field after 20 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
A. Turco.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Sentrup to 2 - 0 as
E. Masoli finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Sentrup lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Sentrup enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Bergkrug's right side looked dangerous after 54 minutes, as
P. Bosvelt broke through.
R. Kersch continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy.
Coming in from the right, Bergkrug had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 59 minutes, but
A. Gomersbach's attempt to finish was easily stopped.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 83 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
S. Cornillon completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
Possession in this half belonged to Sentrup, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
Sentrup's best player was
G. Stanimirov.
D. Jado was a disappointment, however.
Most important Bergkrug player was
D. Mollet.
S. Cornillon turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 0.
