Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Stan Libuda Stadion saw a crowd turnout of 27302.
Per Falkander was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Peter Holtenstad and
Ələkbər Məlikzadə.
Oberhausen started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Ebersgöns - Terhaag, Carcenac, Scheffl - Koczur, Mellen, Pahlke, Hofmair, Słupiecki - Risgård, Kocijančič.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Schapen.
Starters: Zitzewitz - Keicher, Gündling, Schwer, Sprendlingen - Reidt, Anderson, Schralechner - Brasser, Porezag, Galanti.
Oberhausen took the lead after 3 minutes as a result of
T. Mellen's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0.
R. Hofmair could have put Oberhausen up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 26 minutes.
After 36 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
B. Risgård might have resulted in another goal for Oberhausen. However,
S. Zitzewitz made a spectacular save.
The Oberhausen free kick 38 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
R. Hofmair, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 0!
Ater 39 minutes
J. Galanti seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Schapen making it 2 - 1.
2 - 1 was the halftime score.
Oberhausen enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
59 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
A. Carcenac broke through, making the score 3 - 1 for Oberhausen.
With 62 minutes played, Oberhausen put themselves up 4 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
D. Terhaag, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
With 74 minutes played,
T. Pahlke could have brought this one home for Oberhausen as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
Schapen's counterattacks created a good chance for
D. Brasser on the right after 75 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar.
86 minutes into the game,
P. Gündling had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
J. Buchecker.
Oberhausen claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
Oberhausen's best player was
B. Risgård.
J. Koczur was a disappointment, however.
Most important Schapen player was
R. Porezag.
J. Buchecker on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 4 - 1.
