28000 spectators had come to
Wolfsheim this cloudy day.
Emiliano Escheimber was the appointed referee.
Wolverine decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Puchala - Heep, Bruininx, Stettner - Fornier, Groening, Passage, Cornet, Bauern - Muehlholm, Gerad.
Sausrum started off with a 5-3-2 lineup.
Lineup: Gutiérrez - Betas, Notbom, Schwelm, Kammerer, Hämmerlein - Seibel, Krontiris, Frost - Chadicov, Martunovičius.
Wolverine were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
Sausrum clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Sausrum took the lead after 10 minutes making the score 0 - 1.
R. Krontiris placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left.
The referee showed Sausrum's
H. Notbom the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Due to a severely mistimed tackle,
J. Stettner of Wolverine spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.
With 32 minutes having been played, Wolverine scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but
T. Passage was marked down as the scorer.
Slack defending gave Wolverine a chance to take the lead with 34 minutes played, but
H. Groening's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition.
Sausrum's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 35 minutes gone, but
T. Kammerer's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 38 minutes allowed
G. Martunovičius to score for Sausrum. The scoreboard now read 1 - 2.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2.
Wolverine enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.
B. Frost wanted to play on, but the Sausrum coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 60 minutes into the game by
M. Starnberg.
With 65 minutes played, the Wolverine coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
G. Magg came on,
J. Muehlholm had to leave the fray.
Wolverine needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 70 minutes
F. Heep made way for
V. Oginskiy.
R. Chadicov came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
T. Puchala but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
81 minutes in, and Wolverine were able to score the equalising goal to make it 2 - 2 when
T. Passage picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper.
84 minutes into the game,
H. Cornet had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
N. Baron.
85 minutes into the game, Sausrum wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
H. Notbom gave
L. Rieß a quick hug as he left the field.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Wolverine, with 64 percent of the ball.
Most important Wolverine player was
V. Gerad.
On the other hand,
N. Baron's play was disheartening.
Sausrum's best player was
R. Chadicov.
T. Kammerer turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 2.
