(384365174)

28-07-2012 18.30
Clear skies welcomed the 12939 spectators who had made their way to
Westfalen Stadion.
Ramon Elias Kapitain was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Andreas Wall and
Olek Mazuś.
BVBorussia had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Starters: Waterstraat - Párraga, Weener, Brynaert, Grundmo - Quevedo, Isbăşescu, Edera, Grigoraş - Khare, Ruotsila.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Freiburg.
The following players took the field: Moissonnier - Germain, Brandl, Kwiecień - Nikolić, Safont, Düthorn, Nieroth, Käfertal - Kleppa, Sieński.
17 minutes into the game,
K. Germain almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
With 18 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of BVBorussia resulted in a counterattack that set
V. Brynaert free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
20 minutes in, BVBorussia appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
weak.
Freiburg's
T. Düthorn gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 34 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
BVBorussia's
C. Edera got himself booked for a foul.
After 36 minutes, Freiburg's
T. Safont fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
An amazing free kick flew past the home keeper 37 minutes into the match, putting Freiburg ahead 0 - 2.
K. Germain was the scorer.
0 - 2 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Freiburg, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.
A review of the gameplan helped BVBorussia get back to a
passable organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
One of many good crosses from
V. Grigoraş on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
T. Khare, who scored for BVBorussia. 1 - 2
68 minutes into the game, BVBorussia seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
passable.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Freiburg coach let
T. Sałbut replace
B. Nieroth after 72 minutes.
After 74 minutes, Freiburg's
T. Safont burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 3.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
T. Safont from Freiburg a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
M. Quevedo was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
T. Khare seemed unable to profit from this excellent service.
The home crowd was not impressed when
H. Kleppa came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 81 minutes. Freiburg were now up 1 - 4.
Freiburg had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
BVBorussia's top performer was clearly
V. Grigoraş.
On the other hand,
M. Quevedo's play was disheartening.
Freiburg's best player was
G. Sieński.
However,
T. Käfertal made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 4.
