The 21200 fans in attendance at
Feister Höh were roasting in the hot sun.
Wolf Starzynski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tümer Kamet and
Francisco José Téllez.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Haschbach.
Starters: Linkvist - Funason, Sadlowski, Kieraś - Puntigamer, Biedrzycki, Tılsım, Vasiloiu, Willich - Costache, Padkauskas.
Villa had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Lineup: Šeba - Friedensberg, Sellmond, Szyndzielorz, Christian - Piscaia, Goeldi, Verimli, Kortleve - Salamanca, Hasenegger.
Villa were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
Þ. Funason enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again.
Slack defending gave Haschbach a chance to take the lead with 17 minutes played, but
S. Sadlowski's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition.
With 19 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
F. Kieraś flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
The visiting team's
C. Salamanca was able to score the 1 - 1 equaliser with a header 25 minutes into the match, after some good work on the right.
Some great play up the middle by Haschbach led to a chance for
V. Costache to score after 29 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
Many thought
V. Costache ought to have been awarded a penalty 36 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
A. Šeba after a determined run through the middle.
M. Friedensberg showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Villa after 37 minutes to make the score 1 - 2.
1 - 2 was the halftime score.
Haschbach had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
D. Vasiloiu didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
The coach of Villa was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 60 minutes,
W. Schemel came on for
S. Kortleve.
It wasn't a good day at all for
J. Sellmond. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day.
No matter how hard he tried,
T. Padkauskas just couldn't get his shot past the visitors' right side defence after 74 minutes.
A counterattack by Villa after 75 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
T. Christian, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
F. Kieraś dispatched a majestic long shot 77 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres.
Villa showed their counterattack skill 78 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
A. Verimli scoring uncontested for 1 - 3.
Haschbach claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
Haschbach's top performer was clearly
Ł. Biedrzycki.
M. Linkvist on the other hand, had a terrible day.
L. Hasenegger performed admirably for Villa.
A. Šeba was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 1 - 3.
