previous 3/10 next 5/10  FCL 2 - 1 RW-Mülheim (384408892)

The 13011 fans in attendance at Geisterplatz were roasting in the hot sun. Danny Levi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Björn Liedstedt and Hans Christian Agger. FCL tactics involved an interesting 2-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Mzhavanadze - Salmič, Fornier - Camisani, Tolwiński, Umile, Heikkala, Moriceau - Thorsen, Öndüç.

A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for RW-Mülheim. Lineup: Johansen - Samper, Maestre Osorio, Sandland, Håkansson - Alber, Paniagua, Gorocín - Rongen, Ståhl, Houlbert.

FCL tried to focus their attacks down the middle. A questionable penalty 13 minutes in gave the home side the lead, 1 - 0. The visitors' goalie didn't stand a chance as J. Thorsen knocked the ball home. RW-Mülheim tied it all up, 22 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by Q. Houlbert, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 1 - 1. RW-Mülheim had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 33 minutes in when C. Ståhl came up alone against L. Mzhavanadze who managed a block. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, M. Rongen got himself booked. The manager of RW-Mülheim was not happy. With 39 minutes played, T. Salmič of FCL fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Halftime score was 1 - 1. FCL enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.

The heat made it a terrible day for R. Gorocín, who seemed unable to keep up with the other players. J. Thorsen could have put FCL into the lead after 59 minutes, but the free kick went just wide. 61 minutes in, FCL appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate. L. Paniagua didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. FCL took the lead 75 minutes into the match after a magnificent free kick by J. Thorsen that made the score 2 - 1. RW-Mülheim had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

FCL's best player was L. Mzhavanadze. T. Salmič was a disappointment, however. Most important RW-Mülheim player was Q. Houlbert. J. Sandland on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 1.
