30-06-2012 18.30
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 15930 had shown up at
Wiesentalstadion for the match.
Torquato Quadrio Curzo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mario Schmatzer and
Mats Gustavsson.
Weitmar started off with a 3-4-3 lineup.
The following players took the field: Mporelis - Julian, Heye, Weidenbruch - Marbler, Wiesental, Borges, Sellier - Geye, Garbeck, Sramek.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Potsdam.
Starters: Klingenberg - Kolk, Szwec, Cuche - Pérez, Lalitha, Hulagu, Abdulsalam, Gómez - Bergheim, Kosicki.
Pressing was the tactic of the day for Weitmar.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 2 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
K. Geye, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
K. Geye had a fantastic opportunity to put Weitmar up another goal 22 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Potsdam had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 23 minutes, but
F. Kolk's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
Weitmar's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
K. Garbeck unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
After 34 minutes, Potsdam sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
A. Kosicki, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 1.
A. Mporelis looked great 36 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
M. Abdulsalam.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
Potsdam claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.
M. Julian gave Weitmar the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 2 - 1
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
O. Borges from Weitmar a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 71 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
K. Garbeck wanted to play on, but the Weitmar coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 77 minutes into the game by
H. Wiesental.
83 minutes into the game, Weitmar seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
passable.
Weitmar put in a good effort on the right, but
O. Borges saw his volley fly wide of the mark 85 minutes into the game.
Weitmar's
D. Sellier got himself booked for a foul.
C. Heintze was called on to replace Potsdam's
A. Kosicki after 88 minutes following a nasty collision.
Potsdam enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.
Most important Weitmar player was
K. Geye.
H. Wiesental on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Potsdam's top performer was clearly
B. Bergheim.
However,
S. Klingenberg made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 1.
