Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
FC Brandy Arena saw a crowd turnout of 33843.
Chuma Kibet was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Roger Petersheim and
Jaakko Pelto-Timperi.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Hessen derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
Brandy started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Siemser - Tsourelakis, Samhuber, Yafes - Stoelting, Evtushenko, Sehnde, Hornau, Scherer - Aufmuth, Eckdrift.
Grasshopper had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation.
Lineup: Bertz - Hägermo, Verlee, Giovannini, Gern, Sotelo - Missiroli, Rutys, Brehler - Marelli, Ljungman.
Brandy clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
For their match strategy, Grasshopper had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
Brandy took the lead, 1 - 0, after a penalty 16 minutes into the match.
P. Tsourelakis scored from the penalty spot.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
G. Evtushenko got himself booked. The manager of Brandy was not happy.
After 37 minutes, Brandy's
P. Tsourelakis found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 2 - 0.
After this, you could see that the players of Brandy were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Clever play that showed his experience gave
V. Missiroli a good chance to score, but the shot hit the crossbar.
44 minutes in, Brandy's
P. Tsourelakis received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
With 44 minutes gone,
J. Gern suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Grasshopper caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
2 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Brandy had most of the ball, with 78 percent of possession.
After 59 minutes Brandy's
P. Tsourelakis limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
The counterattack by Grasshopper resulted in a free kick that
S. Ljungman bent under the crossbar - 2 - 1!
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as Grasshopper's
L. Marelli put the ball in the onion bag after 69 minutes to make it 2 - 2.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
R. Rutys from Grasshopper a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 81 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
It was obvious that team Brandy had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Brandy, with 81 percent of the ball.
Brandy's best player was
T. Eckdrift.
P. Tsourelakis was a disappointment, however.
Most important Grasshopper player was
N. Sotelo.
R. Brehler on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 2.
