Niels Søndberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Marko Novotny and
Giuliano Sapporel.
All of
Nordrhein-Westfalen was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.

C. Tavera had a good opportunity to give Waschweiber the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
N. Prehn from Waschweiber a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 9 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
C. Doeller was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Ruhrpott's
T. Elbers had to come off the bench.
After 11 minutes of play,
P. Bareyre gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
H. von Moy of Ruhrpott received a yellow card after 18 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Ruhrpott solidified their lead at the 21 minute mark, as
J. Kivikangas dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0.
A bit later, Waschweiber's
L. Gomes easily reduced the lead to 2 - 1 after a misunderstanding in the home side's central defence.
2 - 1 was the halftime score.
Waschweiber had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
R. Papović squirmed through their central defence after 52 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1.
J. Kivikangas's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert
P. Bareyre was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Ruhrpott. 4 - 1.
57 minutes into the game, Waschweiber's attack got through on the right, but
L. Gomes couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms.
Ater 65 minutes
C. Tavera seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Waschweiber making it 4 - 2.
With 66 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, Waschweiber showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 4 - 3 when
N. Prehn got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal.
Waschweiber claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.
Ruhrpott's top performer was clearly
C. Trauner.
P. Bareyre was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating Waschweiber player was without a doubt
C. Tavera.
C. Stoian turned in a dismal performance, however.
