This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when R. Gálicz slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against D. Nangeroni, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. C. Schlemmer was called on to replace Rawetz's F. Jari after 35 minutes following a nasty collision. With 38 minutes played M. Causin almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. The referee showed Herzberger's J. Karonen the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Herzberger had to make a substitution after 41 minutes. J. Karonen limped off the field and was replaced by C. Favole. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Herzberger, with 56 percent of the ball.

Rawetz broke through on the left 71 minutes into the game, with B. Thordal firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. L. Misiti dispatched a majestic long shot 76 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres. 77 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as R.
