Dark skies made the crowd of 22977 at Sükrü Sarac Oglu Stadi a little nervous, but the rain held off. Amador Rognoli was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fletcher Williams and Felix Scheurl. FGA had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Bărăscu - Kois, Würthele, Fakih - Rütti, Gardie, Andak, Stern, De Paolis - Mihályi, Ström.

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Ginsheim. Lineup: Schmauch - Lögering, Maske, Krüsch, Wassergang - Heinreichsberger, Klose, Cortese, Gullery, Lüdersdorf - Kuzma.

The wings were the focus of most of FGA's attacks today. Ginsheim seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. What was M. Stern thinking? That's what everyone wondered when, for no apparent reason, he shot a cross pass over his own penalty area, giving L. Heinreichsberger an extra chance, but unfortunately for Ginsheim, he didn't get the shot right. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when H. Krüsch slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against R. Bărăscu, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to D. Mihályi, but the FGA player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! FGA's T. Würthele left the field after 29 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was M. Pech. 32 minutes in, Ginsheim's L. Heinreichsberger received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. R. Bărăscu of FGA had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. E. Boccassi came in to finish the match. M. Pech was the new captain of FGA - handed the armband by the departing player. Things were deteriorating for the away team as FGA scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for J. Ström after 35 minutes. With 36 minutes played, FGA put themselves up 3 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to J. Ström, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. The players of FGA now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by FGA, with 53 percent of the ball.

After 48 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and J. Ström gave the FGA supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0. At that, J. Ström was noted down for a hat trick! H. Schmauch was caught napping as G. Andak lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. As the game started to slip away for Ginsheim, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. G. Andak's curling free kick almost found the goal for FGA, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it. Ginsheim were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Ginsheim were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 68 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to R. Kuzma, who smashed it home to make the score 4 - 1. FGA enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

J. Ström performed admirably for FGA. E. Boccassi was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Ginsheim player was without a doubt P. Cortese. However, B. Lüdersdorf made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 1.
