Given a free kick close to the byline, 1.FC tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let M. Roméro
slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 0, 23 minutes into the game.
Rot-Weiß's N. da Vila
made use of his speed to get free of the defence, but he still couldn't get a shot off 33 minutes into the match.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by 1.FC, with 68 percent of the ball.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors. M. Taliani
squirmed through their central defence after 53 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
By now, the players in 1.FC felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
1.FC's H. Petri
swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.
1.FC's J. Cignoni
left the field after 67 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was M. Osborne
Rot-Weiß reduced the lead after 69 minutes to 2 - 1 as J. Zuendel
easily chipped the ball past the home side's keeper after a dazzling play from the right.
74 minutes into the game, A. Kenyon
had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came B. Rohweddell
1.FC had most of the ball, with 63 percent of possession.
performed admirably for 1.FC.
On the other hand, M. Osborne
's play was disheartening.
