Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Solingen Arena saw a crowd turnout of 18163.
Freek Schoofs was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Cristiano Spinozzi and
Asep Hariyanto.
Borussia had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Judnič - Diallo, Johnston, Łaski - Schwabenland, Grouw, Hedelfingen, Guttmann, Dunea - Kožulj, Bichow.

The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 17 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but
V. Judnič got the best of it, blocking the shot from
J. Matsson.
Bavaria had a chance to level the score as
L. Scheperfeld suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar.
The referee showed Borussia's
J. Kožulj the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
P. Favaretto of Bavaria had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
M. van Kuppeveld came in to finish the match.
The Bavaria captaincy was handed to
R. Ranocchi.
The visitors'
R. Ranocchi was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 36 minutes.
Borussia's
R. Grouw was shown a yellow card after 37 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Bavaria's
J. Matsson went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Bavaria, with 57 percent of the ball.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
J. Kožulj, but the Borussia player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1!
With 64 minutes played,
R. Ranocchi came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Bavaria.
After 70 minutes, Bavaria's
J. Hagn fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
After 72 minutes, Borussia's
R. Grouw found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 3 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Bavaria, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.
J. Kožulj performed admirably for Borussia.
V. Judnič on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Bavaria player was without a doubt
C. von Wolffskeel.
M. Hofbräu turned in a dismal performance, however.
