(384515753)

18-08-2012 18.20
13272 spectators had come to
La Profi Clupo this cloudy day.
Søren Margies was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sorin Constantin and
Urs Pritt.
Profi tactics involved an interesting 5-2-3 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Chartier - Vanderfuhr, Fiegert, Gács, Veenman, Faoro - Busta, Glatzl - Pavković, Amaral Silva, Sevelevičius.
Kniebel started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Jones - Schupan, Pohjanvirta, Revoira - Vitortas, Visca San Román, Syskoplam, Robu, Lala - Bark, Carlyle.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Profi.
Kniebel tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
Down the middle came
A. Visca San Román, making a fantastic play that nearly had Kniebel take the lead after 3 minutes, but
H. Chartier preserved the tie.
A. Visca San Román came close to putting the visiting team one up 8 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
H. Chartier managed to tip the ball to a corner.
Kniebel had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 19 minutes in when
G. Revoira came up alone against
H. Chartier who managed a block.
With the clock showing 20 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Profi resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
H. Veenman in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 30 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called Kniebel's
C. Robu to one side and produced a red card for the player.
31 minutes into the game,
G. Revoira had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
H. Michelin.
This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
A. Carlyle slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against
H. Chartier, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0.
Kniebel had most of the ball, with 77 percent of possession.
Against a lesser team, Kniebel could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 66 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
68 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
H. Michelin, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
The goal to make it 1 - 0 was scored by
N. Pavković after 69 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by Profi.
A quick counter attack by Profi forced the opponent's defender to give away a freekick.
I. Gács was allowed to take it quickly by the referee, much to the dismay of the goalkeeper who wasn't prepared. 2 - 0!
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Profi lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
The home team's fans were upset when, after 85 minutes, the visiting
G. Schupan broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 2 - 1 was the score.
Kniebel's
G. Schupan got himself booked for a foul.
Due to a severely mistimed tackle,
S. Glatzl of Profi spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.
87 minutes in, Profi's
S. Glatzl received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
The coach of Profi was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 88 minutes,
D. Lekstutis came on for
S. Faoro.
N. Pavković left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 88 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
M. Balkowski was the replacement.
The head of
J. Vanderfuhr connected with a corner kick after 88 minutes, and the ball ended up with
M. Balkowski of Profi who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 3 - 1.
J. Amaral Silva wanted to play on, but the Profi coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 89 minutes into the game by
L. Sloten.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Kniebel, with 78 percent of the ball.
Most important Profi player was
M. Sevelevičius.
I. Gács on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Kniebel's best player was
A. Carlyle.
V. Vitortas turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 3 - 1.
