Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Arena auf Herne saw a crowd turnout of 16933. Filip Werner was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kristian Løvelund and Luis Vara. Schomer almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. With 37 minutes played, K. Epe of Herne fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. 38 minutes into the game, W. Schomer had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came S. Strauß. H. Edl was handed the Lüdenscheider captain's armband. At 39 minutes played, K. Epe came in from the right with the intention of giving Herne the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. What ever got into W. Kronbichler, the crowd mumbled, as he suddenly struck a cross pass through his own defence - ending up right in front of Herne's F. Kleinlinden, who easily put the ball away for 1 - 0 after 40 minutes. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Lüdenscheider, with 52 percent of the ball.

The visitors refused to give in and, after 64 minutes, A. Fieger evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1 After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, R. Elstermeier got himself booked. The manager of Herne was not happy. With 77 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as F. Kleinlinden flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. R. Fubel levelled the score for Lüdenscheider, making it 2 - 2 on a free kick that went in by way of the right post. J. Kolka of Herne received a yellow card after 80 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. A penalty was given after 83 minutes, allowing the visitors to gain the lead: 2 - 3. R. Fubel was the scorer. Lüdenscheider's U. Rochow was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 84 minutes. Herne claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.

The most dominating Herne player was without a doubt A. Houssami. On the other hand, S. Falero's play was disheartening. R. Fubel performed admirably for Lüdenscheider. H. Edl was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 3.
