previous 4/4 next 2/4  Hedendorf 5 - 1 MAINZ (384730862)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 12000 had shown up at Waldstadion for the match. Sebastian Lită was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Pawel Kusmierczyk and Elias Rossinen. Hedendorf decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. They fielded: Ernle - Eminger, Busenbender, Mayer-Eggert, Schönecker - Wernsdorfer, Drabeck, Zentner, von Holdt - Scherbauer, Dünninger.

MAINZ had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Plattner - Hofmann-Schlickenrade, Eckhardstein, Wimmers, Dannert - Belli, Usvardi, Vincze, Schulgang - Koutas, Ohlstedt.

16 minutes in, Hedendorf's R. Scherbauer received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Slack defending gave Hedendorf a chance to take the lead with 20 minutes played, but R. Scherbauer's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. Hedendorf took the lead 26 minutes in, as G. Zentner broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. MAINZ hit back on the counter attack 28 minutes into the game with a free kick. Initially it seemed wasted, hit wide towards the wing. But there was an idea to it - the ball was then crossed towards S. Koutas, who was waiting for it in the box. That's 1 - 1! Don't forget to thank the set pieces coach for that idea! With 37 minutes played, F. Wimmers of MAINZ fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Hedendorf broke through on the left 38 minutes into the game, with A. Dünninger firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 2 - 1 lead. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Hedendorf claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

69 minutes into the game, Hedendorf were awarded a penalty that L. Eminger turned into 3 - 1 without a problem. Hedendorf managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when A. Dünninger cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. The players of Hedendorf now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. MAINZ's H. Vincze got himself booked for a foul. Hedendorf's M. Busenbender went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention. 77 minutes into the match L. Eminger put Hedendorf ahead 5 - 1 with a truly marvelous free kick. Hedendorf had most of the ball, with 62 percent of possession.

A. Mayer-Eggert performed admirably for Hedendorf. K. Ernle was a disappointment, however. MAINZ's top performer was clearly P. Belli. F. Plattner on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 1.
